Bass player Jonno Smith soon enters along with guitarist Rob Ting. The band’s newest member, Nation Blue drummer Dan McKay, is zonked out on a counch inside when keyboardist Mikey Ting bursts through a side-door, pulling his belt latch together. “Excuse me while I zip up,” he smirks. A taste of the band’s debut comes in the form of singles ‘Stand Right Up’ and ‘Shot To Kill’, and there’s plenty of variation emitting through a retro rock, soul, punk and crossbreed reggae-tinged vibe. The whole Clash-versus-Springsteen thing should not define this band. As Horscroft pulls out a takeaway menu, King Cannons’ impeccably coiffured and heavily tattooed frontman Luke Yeoward nods to me to come chat one-on-one style away from the gathering.
