Sonically the band is exquisite early on in the piece with Griffin Goldsmith’s loose, backbeat percussion/vocal embracing very much that of a Levon Helm flavour. Sibling Taylor bellows throughout as Strathairn’s keys do some of their finest work on Fire Away; another first-class track taken from last year’s Nothing is Wrong release. There are shades of Band of Horses and Dr. Dog in the harmonies while The Band groove continues to loom large along with a ’60s Beach Boys vibe. Snaky guitar progressions then fall across chugging-along parts on My Girl To Me, taken from the ensemble’s 2009 debut North Hills. Full review here.
